Come read to a Therapy Pet at the library! Volunteers from the Animal Rescue League's Therapets program will be bringing two, trained therapy dogs to the library to read with children. Kids can pick out their favorite book and read it to a furry friend. This is a great way for kids to gain confidence with reading aloud.
Ages 5+ (children must be accompanied by an adult)
Please register online for this program. This event will be broken down into individual sessions. You will be contacted before the event and assigned a specific time.
If you have questions, please email Sheila Olson at firstname.lastname@example.org
Meet the dogs!
Satchmo is a greyhound who lives in Altoona. Satchmo loves everyone, especially kids! When Satchmo is not relaxing at home, he enjoys visiting his resident-friends at an Altoona Nursing home, walking the trails behind the library (where he leads exercise programs for rabbits), and "shopping" for new toys at PetSmart. Satchmo loves stories and is ready to read with some new friends!
This is Babe's first time at the Altoona Public Library! Babe is a happy four-year-old Chihuahua who loves children, walks, relaxing on the couch, chasing the neighbor dogs, and playing with his brothers who are Chihuahuas as well. Sometimes Babe barks for attention if you are not petting him. He LOOOOOVES everyone and everything. He likes doing tricks for treats, but no too many! (He was overfed by his previous owners, so he's on a diet.)
